Blogg Reduce meat and food...

Yesterday I heard about an app that’s helping people make more sustainable choices. In the ”Klimaträtt” project in Uppsala, participants use the app to visualise their carbon emissions. On a bad day the project’s mascot – a polar bear – finds himself stranded.

But participants can restore the ice by following tips and advice. For instance, to reduce emissions from food

  1. eat less meat
  2. waste less

They can go further, buying seasonal, organic and locally-produced food, but tackling meat and waste will have the greatest initial impact.

Energy-related emissions in the Klimaträtt project are already low so participants have to focus on food, transport and other consumption to reduce their overall impact. If they eat less meat, waste less food and reduce car use, then the mascot’s ice is restored.

On a really good day, the the polar bear has enough space on the ice to play hockey again!
