#71 Our recognition of the value of the world’s forests increases all the time. Providing habitats, soil renewal, water recycling, carbon sinks, building materials and food, forests are incredibly valuable. So we need to take good care of them, yet sadly we’re losing 50 football fields worth of trees every minute.
Along with 40 international partners the World Resources Institute has recently launched an internet-based information service called Global Forest Watch to enable all of us to keep watch over the world’s forests.
At the Global Forest Watch website you can
- See where forest fires are currently raging
- Read what forest means to Armenians
- Learn how much forestry contributes to the economy of Thailand
- Find links to stories about companies’ commitments to sustainable palm oil
and much more. I recommend it for gentle browsing on a rainy weekend!
